Quick answer

Is it worth going to Colombia?

360 liposuction in Colombia commonly costs from about £2,400, often a half to a third of UK or US pricing for comparable work. Colombia has a large, established body contouring sector concentrated in Medellin, Bogota, Cali and Cartagena, with many experienced plastic surgeons. The real cost is the travel itself, because this is circumferential surgery that needs weeks of recovery before you fly home, and a busy market means who actually holds the cannula matters more than the headline price.

Costs below are indicative ranges, reviewed September 2025, and vary by how many areas are treated, how much fat is removed, the technique, and what a package includes. They are not a quote and not a promise of a result.

What it really costs here

The price in Colombia, honestly.

In Colombia a lipo 360, treating the abdomen, waist, flanks and often the back in one circumferential procedure, typically runs from about £2,400 to £4,800, which is roughly $3,000 to $6,000. All inclusive packages that bundle recovery accommodation and nursing care are often quoted from around £3,000. Price is driven by the number of zones, the volume of fat, whether VASER or laser assisted lipo is used, and the surgeon and facility.

Indicative ranges, reviewed September 2025. Not a quote. A price far below the rest of the market often means a less experienced surgeon, a non accredited theatre, or large volume removal pushed past what is safe in one sitting.

The realistic experience

The trip, recovery and the follow up problem.

Lipo 360 is not a fly in, fly out procedure. You should plan to stay in Colombia for a meaningful recovery before flying, because flights soon after liposuction raise the risk of deep vein thrombosis. Expect a compression garment for weeks and a final shape that takes months to settle as swelling resolves.

01

Days 1 to 3

Surgery is usually under general or heavy sedation. Expect soreness, bruising, drainage from incision points, and a fitted compression garment worn almost constantly.

02

Week 1 to 2

Swelling and bruising peak then begin to ease. Light walking is encouraged to lower clot risk. Many people use a recovery house with nursing support during this stage.

03

Day 8 to 14

Many surgeons advise waiting one to two weeks before a long flight. Confirm your own clearance to fly directly with the operating surgeon.

04

3 to 6 months

Swelling continues to settle and the contour refines. Minor irregularities can take months to judge, and some people consider a touch up.

The follow up problem

Once you are home, a contour irregularity, a seroma, or a wound that heals slowly is hard to manage from another country. Local surgeons are often reluctant to take on another clinic's work, so agree before you travel exactly how reviews, drains, and any revision will be handled.

Insurance and complication cover

Standard travel insurance rarely covers elective cosmetic surgery or its complications. Read the policy closely and consider dedicated medical complications cover before you book.

The risks of travelling here

What can go wrong.

Liposuction is common, but 360 is large, circumferential surgery and the risks scale with the volume removed and the distance you travel afterward. Understand these before you commit.

Clots from flying after surgery

Liposuction and flights both raise the risk of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. Allow real recovery time and get written clearance to fly.

Large volume and fluid shifts

Removing fat from the full circumference in one sitting is more taxing than a single area. High volume removal carries risks of fluid imbalance and, rarely, fat embolism. Ask how much will be removed and over how long.

A very high volume market

Colombia performs a large number of cosmetic procedures, and demand has drawn in some operators who cut corners. Reputable surgeons are registered with the Colombian authorities and many belong to the Sociedad Colombiana de Cirugia Plastica. Verify registration rather than trusting social media.

Contour problems and skin laxity

Lumps, dents, asymmetry and loose skin are the results people regret. They trace mostly to technique and to poor candidacy, for example treating someone whose skin will not retract.

Infection, seroma and no guaranteed shape

Fluid collections, infection and prolonged bruising are possible and may surface days after you fly home. Lipo removes fat, it does not tighten skin or remove cellulite, and no honest surgeon promises a specific silhouette.

How to choose safely in Colombia

Five questions before you pay.

We do not name clinics. Use these to judge any clinic in Colombia you are sent to, and treat vague answers, pressure to book, and prices far below the market as the warning signs that matter most.

1
Is the surgeon a registered plastic surgeon?
Ask for the surgeon's registration with the Colombian authorities and specialist training in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. Membership of the Sociedad Colombiana de Cirugia Plastica is a useful sign, not a general practitioner doing cosmetic work.
2
Is the hospital or theatre accredited?
Liposuction belongs in a properly equipped, licensed theatre with anaesthetic support, not an office back room. Ask which licensed facility the surgery takes place in.
3
How much fat will be removed, and over how long?
A safe surgeon sets a volume limit and may stage the work. Be wary of anyone promising to remove very large volumes from every zone in a single short session.
4
Who gives the anaesthetic, and what monitoring is there?
A qualified anaesthetist and full monitoring matter for a procedure of this size. Confirm this is included, not an optional extra.
5
What happens if I need a review or revision at home?
Get the aftercare plan, garment guidance, and any revision terms in writing, including who pays and how a revision works once you are back home.

Common questions

The things everyone asks.

Is 360 liposuction in Colombia safe?

At an accredited facility where a registered plastic surgeon operates with proper anaesthetic support, it can be safe and the results good. Risk rises with very high volume removal, non accredited theatres, and flying home too soon. This page is here to help you tell a careful clinic from a risky one.

Why is it so much cheaper in Colombia?

Mostly lower labour, facility and overhead costs and a competitive market, not lower quality by default. A price far below the rest of the market, though, can signal a less experienced surgeon or an unsafe volume of removal.

How long should I stay in Colombia after surgery?

Plan for a stay of roughly one to two weeks. Many surgeons advise waiting that long before a long flight because of clot risk. Always confirm your own clearance to fly with the operating surgeon.

When will I see the final result?

Swelling settles over months. Most people see the shape refine across three to six months, and minor irregularities can take that long to judge. No surgeon can honestly promise a specific silhouette.

Will lipo 360 tighten loose skin?

No. Liposuction removes fat, it does not tighten skin or remove cellulite. If skin laxity is the main issue, a different or additional procedure may be discussed, which changes cost and recovery.
