The one honest thing
The UAE is a premium market, so a body lift here is chosen for the standard of private hospitals and convenience, not for a deep saving on the UK.
Quick answer

Is the UAE worth it?

A body lift in the UAE, often a lower body or belt lipectomy after major weight loss, commonly runs from about AED 35,000 to AED 90,000 depending on how extensive it is, roughly £7,500 to £19,000. That overlaps the UK private range of about £12,000 to £25,000, so the UAE is rarely a budget choice. People choose it for the standard of private hospitals, the language, and convenience rather than a dramatic saving.

Costs below are indicative ranges, reviewed June 2025, and vary with how much skin is removed, whether liposuction is added, and what a package includes. They are not a quote and not a promise of a result.

What it really costs

The price in United Arab Emirates, honestly.

A body lift is a large operation, and the quote depends heavily on the extent, from a partial lift to a full circumferential belt lipectomy that goes all the way around the torso. The UAE is a higher cost private market than most medical travel destinations, so the value is in hospital standards and convenience rather than price. Expect to pay separately for the surgeon, the hospital, the anaesthetic and the overnight stay.

Confirm in writing what the price covers, including hospital and anaesthetist fees, the overnight stay, garments and reviews, and whether VAT is added. A body lift quote that looks cheap usually leaves these out.

The real experience

Recovery, and the follow up.

A body lift is done under general anaesthetic and can take several hours, especially a circumferential procedure. Most people stay in the UAE for about seven to ten days so the surgeon can manage drains, change dressings, fit compression garments and confirm you are safe to fly. Expect significant soreness, swelling and bruising, and limited mobility at first.

This is a long recovery. Drains stay in for several days, garments are worn for weeks, and many surgeons advise six to eight weeks off work depending on your job. The long incisions take time to heal, and the final shape, with scars settling, can take twelve to twenty four months to show.

The follow up is the central problem of going abroad for major surgery. Wound healing, a seroma or a scar revision can need hands on care over months, which is hard to manage from another country. Agree before you travel how reviews and any revision will be handled, line up a local doctor for urgent care, and do not book your flight home too soon. Standard travel insurance rarely covers elective surgery or its complications.

The risks of travelling here

What can go wrong.

A body lift removes a large amount of skin and is one of the bigger cosmetic operations. The risks are real, and travelling for it adds a layer of its own.

Wound healing problems

Long incisions under tension can heal slowly, separate at the edges, or leave wide scars. This is the most common issue after a body lift and can need further care.

Seroma and fluid collection

Fluid building up under the skin is common after large lifts and may need draining more than once, which is awkward once you are home.

Infection and bleeding

Infection and bleeding or a haematoma are uncommon but serious, and prompt treatment is harder to reach from abroad.

Clot risk with a long operation and a flight

A long procedure followed by a flight raises the risk of a deep vein clot. Ask about clot prevention and do not fly too soon.

The travelling risk

A complication after you land is the hardest part of going abroad. Local surgeons may be reluctant to take on another clinic work, so settle aftercare, guarantee and revision terms in writing first.

How to choose safely here

Questions before you pay.

A safe clinic answers all of these in writing without flinching. Vague answers, pressure to book quickly, and prices far below the market are the warning signs that matter most. We never name a clinic, so use these to judge any you are sent.

1
Is a licensed plastic surgeon doing the operation?
In the UAE doctors are licensed by the health authority, such as the DHA in Dubai or the federal MOHAP. Ask for the surgeon name and licence, and confirm they hold a recognised plastic surgery specialty.
2
Is the hospital accredited?
A body lift needs a proper hospital with overnight care. Ask whether the facility holds international accreditation such as JCI, and where you are managed if something goes wrong.
3
How extensive is my lift, and is it staged?
A safe plan names the areas, explains how much skin is removed, and stages very large cases rather than doing everything at once.
4
Who manages drains, garments and reviews?
Confirm how many days you stay, who removes drains and fits garments, and how reviews work once you are home.
5
What is included, and is VAT added?
Get an itemised quote covering surgeon, hospital, anaesthetic, overnight stay, garments and medication, and confirm the currency and whether VAT applies.
6
What happens if I need a revision?
Get the revision and guarantee terms in writing, including who pays and whether a second trip is required.

Common questions

The things everyone asks.

Is body lift surgery in the UAE safe?

In an accredited hospital with a licensed plastic surgeon, standards can be high. Body lift is still major surgery with real risks, and travelling for it adds the problem of distant follow up. This guide helps you judge a clinic carefully.

Will I save money compared with the UK?

Often not much. UAE body lift commonly runs AED 35,000 to AED 90,000, roughly £7,500 to £19,000, against £12,000 to £25,000 in the UK, reviewed June 2025. People usually choose the UAE for hospital standards and convenience rather than price.

How long do I need to stay?

Plan for about seven to ten days so drains can be removed, garments fitted, and the surgeon can confirm you are safe to fly. Your surgeon decides when flying is safe.

Is a body lift the same as a tummy tuck?

No. A tummy tuck addresses the front abdomen, while a body lift removes skin around more of the torso, often circumferentially after major weight loss. The right operation depends on your skin laxity.

What if something goes wrong after I get home?

Wound and scar problems can need care over months, which is hard from abroad. Agree aftercare, guarantee and revision terms in writing first, and line up a local doctor for urgent issues.
