The trip, recovery and the follow up problem.
A BBL is not a fly in, fly out procedure. You should plan to stay in Mexico for a meaningful recovery before flying, because flights soon after liposuction raise the risk of deep vein thrombosis. You also cannot sit directly on your buttocks for weeks, which makes the journey home awkward, and the final shape takes months to settle as some grafted fat is naturally reabsorbed.
Days 1 to 3
Surgery is usually under general or heavy sedation. Expect soreness at the donor areas, bruising, and a compression garment. You sleep on your front or side and avoid sitting on the buttocks.
Week 1 to 2
Swelling and bruising peak then ease. Light walking lowers clot risk. A special cushion is used for any sitting. Most people are not ready to fly yet.
Day 7 to 14
Many surgeons advise waiting one to two weeks before flying, and longer before sitting normally. Confirm your own clearance to fly directly with the operating surgeon.
3 to 6 months
Swelling settles and the final volume becomes clear once the body reabsorbs a portion of the grafted fat. Some people consider a second session for more projection.
Once you are home, a contour irregularity, a fat collection that needs draining, or a wound that heals slowly is hard to manage from another country. Local surgeons are often reluctant to take on another clinic's work, so agree before you travel exactly how reviews and any revision will be handled.

A BBL deserves more caution than almost any aesthetic operation. The most serious risk is rare but can be fatal, and travelling adds distance between you and help if it happens. Understand these before you commit.
If fat is injected into or below the muscle and enters a large vein, it can travel to the lungs or heart and kill. Older data estimated the death rate at roughly 1 in 3,000 BBLs, the highest of any cosmetic operation. Injecting only into the layer above the muscle, often with ultrasound guidance, has reduced this substantially in more recent reports, which is why technique is the question that matters most.
Liposuction and flights both raise the risk of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. Allow real recovery time and get written clearance to fly.
Grafted fat that loses its blood supply can die and form firm lumps or become infected, sometimes weeks later when you are already home and help is far away.
The body reabsorbs a variable share of the grafted fat, so the final size is hard to predict and the two sides can differ. A touch up is sometimes needed.
