A BBL carries the highest death rate of any cosmetic procedure. Fat injected too deep can cause a fatal embolism. Technique is everything.
Quick answer

Is it worth going to Turkey?

A Brazilian butt lift in Turkey commonly costs from about £2,500, often a half to a third of UK private pricing. But cost should not lead this decision. A BBL has the highest reported death rate of any cosmetic operation, because fat injected too deep can enter a vein and cause a fatal embolism. The safety of the surgeon and technique matters far more than the price.

Costs below are indicative ranges, reviewed August 2025, and vary by the volume of fat, the technique, the surgeon, and what a package includes. They are not a quote and not a promise of a result.

What it really costs here

The price in Turkey, honestly.

In Turkey a BBL, which uses liposuction to harvest your own fat and transfers it to the buttocks, typically runs from about £2,500 to £6,000, which is roughly $3,000 to $7,000. All inclusive packages are often quoted from around £3,000. Price is driven by the volume of fat, the technique, and the surgeon and facility.

Indicative ranges, reviewed August 2025. Not a quote. With a BBL especially, a price far below the market is a warning sign, not a bargain, because safety depends on an experienced surgeon and proper monitoring.

The realistic experience

The trip, recovery and the follow up problem.

A BBL is not a fly in, fly out procedure. You should plan to stay in Turkey for a meaningful recovery before flying, because liposuction and a long flight both raise the risk of a blood clot. You also cannot sit directly on your buttocks for weeks, which makes the journey home awkward, and the final shape settles over months as some transferred fat is reabsorbed.

01

Days 1 to 3

Surgery is under general or heavy sedation. Expect soreness at the liposuction sites and buttocks, a compression garment, and strict instructions not to sit on the buttocks.

02

Week 1 to 2

Swelling and bruising peak then ease. You sit on a special cushion or lie on your front, and light walking lowers clot risk. Most people are not ready to fly yet.

03

Day 10 to 14

Many surgeons advise waiting around ten to fourteen days before flying, with care taken about sitting on the journey. Confirm your own clearance to fly with the operating surgeon.

04

3 to 6 months

Swelling settles and the body reabsorbs some of the transferred fat, so the final volume is lower than day one. The shape refines over months.

The follow up problem

Once you are home, a hard lump from fat necrosis, an infection, or uneven take is hard to manage from another country. Local surgeons are often reluctant to take on another clinic's work, so agree before you travel exactly how reviews and any revision will be handled.

Insurance and complication cover

Standard travel insurance rarely covers elective cosmetic surgery or its complications. Read the policy closely and consider dedicated medical complications cover before you book.

The risks of travelling here

What can go wrong.

Of all the procedures we cover, the BBL demands the most caution. The headline risk is rare but can be fatal, and it depends almost entirely on the surgeon's technique. Understand these before you commit.

Fat embolism, the fatal risk

If fat is injected into or below the buttock muscle, it can enter a large vein and travel to the lungs or heart. This is the reason the BBL has the highest death rate of any cosmetic procedure. Safe technique injects only above the muscle, ideally with ultrasound guidance.

Clots from flying after surgery

Liposuction and a long flight both raise the risk of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. Allow real recovery time and get written clearance to fly.

Fat necrosis and lumps

Transferred fat that does not gain a blood supply can die and form hard, sometimes painful lumps, which may need treatment once you are home.

Infection and uneven take

Infection, asymmetry, and unpredictable fat survival are all possible. Because the body reabsorbs some fat, the final result can differ from the early one.

No guaranteed shape

How much fat survives varies from person to person, and a touch up is sometimes needed. No honest surgeon promises a specific volume or silhouette.

How to choose safely in Turkey

Five questions before you pay.

We do not name clinics. With a BBL, safety questions matter more than with almost any other procedure. Treat vague answers, pressure to book, and prices far below the market as the warning signs that matter most.

1
Is the surgeon a qualified plastic surgeon?
Ask for the surgeon's qualifications and registration with the Turkish Medical Association, and specialist training in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, not a general practitioner doing cosmetic work.
2
Is fat injected above the muscle, with ultrasound?
This is the single most important safety question. Safer practice places fat only in the layer above the muscle, and ultrasound guidance helps avoid the deep veins linked to fatal embolism.
3
Is the hospital accredited, with anaesthetic support?
Look for the Ministry of Health International Health Tourism Authorization, and JCI accreditation for larger hospitals. A BBL belongs in a proper theatre with a qualified anaesthetist and monitoring.
4
How much fat will be removed and transferred?
A safe surgeon sets sensible limits rather than promising extreme results. Be wary of anyone offering a dramatic size in a single short session.
5
What happens if I need a review or revision at home?
Get the aftercare plan, garment and sitting guidance, and any revision terms in writing, including who pays and how a revision works once you are back home.

Common questions

The things everyone asks.

Is a BBL in Turkey safe?

A BBL is the highest risk cosmetic procedure anywhere, not only in Turkey. It can be done relatively safely by an experienced plastic surgeon who injects fat only above the muscle in an accredited hospital, ideally with ultrasound guidance. Risk rises sharply with inexperienced surgeons and unsafe technique, so the surgeon matters far more than the country or price.

Why is a BBL considered so dangerous?

Because fat injected too deep can enter a large vein and travel to the lungs or heart, causing a fat embolism that can be fatal. This is why technique, and injecting only above the muscle, is the most important safety factor.

How long should I stay in Turkey after surgery?

Plan for a stay of roughly ten to fourteen days, with care about sitting on the journey home because of clot risk. Always confirm your own clearance to fly with the operating surgeon.

Will all the fat stay?

No. The body reabsorbs some of the transferred fat over the first months, so the final volume is smaller than on day one. How much survives varies, and a touch up is sometimes needed.

When can I sit normally again?

Most surgeons advise avoiding direct pressure on the buttocks for several weeks, using a special cushion or sitting on the thighs. This protects the newly transferred fat, and your surgeon will give you a specific timeline.
