Quick answer

Is it worth going to India?

Breast implant removal in India commonly costs from about 900 pounds, often a fraction of UK private pricing for comparable work. India has internationally accredited hospitals and many plastic surgeons trained to a high standard, so at a properly accredited facility outcomes can be very good. The real cost is the travel, because you need time to recover before a flight and a clear plan for follow up at home.

Costs below are indicative ranges, reviewed October 2025, and vary by the surgeon, the facility, the complexity of your case, and what a package includes. They are not a quote and not a promise of a result.

What it really costs here

The price in India, honestly.

In India a straightforward breast implant removal, or explant, typically runs from about 900 to 2,400 pounds, which is roughly 95,000 to 250,000 rupees. Adding a lift to address loose skin costs more. Price is driven by the complexity, the surgeon, the hospital, and what is bundled in.

Indicative ranges, reviewed October 2025. Not a quote. A price far below the rest of the market often means a less experienced surgeon, a non accredited theatre, or aftercare you cannot verify. Removal with a lift is a bigger operation and priced accordingly.

Always confirm in writing whether a lift is included, which surgeon operates, how many nights of care are covered, and the currency you are billed in. Home figures are indicative bands, not a fixed quote.

The realistic experience

The trip, recovery and the follow up problem.

Implant removal is usually a shorter operation than the original augmentation, but it is still surgery under general anaesthetic, and flying too soon raises the risk of a blood clot. Plan to stay in India for about a week to ten days, and know that the breast shape after removal depends a lot on your skin and how long the implants were in.

01

Days 1 to 2

Surgery is under general anaesthetic, often a day case or one night. Expect tightness, soreness, swelling, and a support bra worn around the clock.

02

Day 3 to 6

Discomfort eases and a wound check is done. Heavy lifting and raising the arms stay restricted while healing settles.

03

Day 7 to 10

Many surgeons clear patients to fly in this window, but only after a wound check. Confirm your own clearance to fly directly with the operating surgeon.

04

2 to 3 months

Swelling settles and the skin retracts as far as it will. The final look depends on your skin quality and whether a lift was done.

The follow up problem

A wound problem or a disappointing shape is hard to manage from another country, and some local doctors are reluctant to take on another clinic's work. Keep your operative notes and any details of the removed implants, and agree before you travel how reviews and any further surgery will be handled.

Insurance and complication cover

Standard travel insurance rarely covers elective cosmetic surgery or its complications. Read the policy closely and consider dedicated medical complications cover before you book.

The risks of travelling here

What can go wrong.

Implant removal is generally safe in skilled hands, but it is real surgery and travelling for it adds its own risks. Understand these before you commit.

Clots from flying after surgery

Surgery under general anaesthetic and long haul flights both raise the risk of deep vein thrombosis. Allow real recovery time before you fly and get written clearance.

Loose skin and a deflated look

After removal the breast may look smaller, flatter, or saggy, especially if implants were large or in place for years. You may want a lift, which is more surgery and cost.

Scarring and changed sensation

Removal leaves a scar, and nipple or skin sensation can change. Some changes are permanent.

Bleeding, infection and fluid collection

Bleeding, infection, and a collection of fluid called a seroma are possible and may surface after you fly home, when help is far away.

Decisions about the capsule

The surgeon may remove the scar capsule around the implant, which is a larger operation, or leave it. Discuss what is planned and why, and what it means for recovery.

How to choose safely in India

Five questions before you pay.

We do not name clinics. Use these to judge any clinic in India you are sent to, and treat vague answers, pressure to book, and prices far below the market as the warning signs that matter most.

1
Is the surgeon a qualified plastic surgeon?
Ask whether the surgeon holds a recognised plastic surgery qualification such as MCh or DNB in plastic surgery, is registered with the National Medical Commission, and belongs to the Association of Plastic Surgeons of India. Verify directly, not just from a website.
2
Is the hospital accredited?
Look for NABH accreditation, the national hospital standard in India, and JCI at some larger hospitals. This is surgery that belongs in a properly equipped theatre with anaesthetic support.
3
Who gives the anaesthetic, and what monitoring is there?
A qualified anaesthetist and full monitoring matter for any procedure under sedation or general anaesthetic. Confirm this is included, not an optional extra.
4
Can I have my operative notes and a written plan?
Ask for the surgical plan, the named operating surgeon, and your operative notes afterwards. This matters for any future review or revision once you are home.
5
What happens if I need a review or revision at home?
Get the aftercare plan and any revision or guarantee terms in writing, including who pays and how a revision works once you are back in your own country.

Common questions

The things everyone asks.

Is breast implant removal in India safe?

At an accredited hospital where a qualified plastic surgeon operates with proper anaesthetic support, it can be safe and the results good. Risk rises with non accredited theatres and flying home too soon. This page is here to help you tell a careful clinic from a risky one.

Why is it cheaper than the UK?

Mostly lower labour, facility and overhead costs and a competitive market, not lower quality by default. A price far below the rest of the market, though, can signal a less experienced surgeon or a non accredited theatre.

Will my breasts sag after removal?

They can, especially if implants were large or in for many years. The result depends on your skin. Some people choose a lift at the same time, which adds surgery, recovery, and cost.

Do I need the capsule removed too?

Sometimes. Removing the scar capsule, called a capsulectomy, is a larger operation that is not always needed. Ask the surgeon what they plan and why, and what it means for your recovery.

How long should I stay in India?

Plan for about a week to ten days. Many surgeons clear patients to fly in that window after a wound check. Always confirm your own clearance to fly with the operating surgeon.
