Quick answer

Is it worth going to Mexico?

A breast lift, or mastopexy, in Mexico commonly costs from about £2,800, which is roughly $3,500, often a half to a third of UK or US pricing for comparable work. Cities such as Tijuana, Cancun and Mexico City have a large cosmetic surgery sector serving North American patients. A lift reshapes and raises sagging breasts but does not add volume, so it always leaves scars, and the bigger consideration is that follow up is harder once you are home.

Costs below are indicative ranges, reviewed May 2025, and vary by the lift technique, whether an implant is added, the city, and what a package includes. They are not a quote and not a promise of a result.

What it really costs here

The price in Mexico, honestly.

In Mexico a breast lift typically runs from about £2,800 to £5,100, which is roughly $3,500 to $6,500, with Tijuana commonly around $4,500 to $5,500. Adding an implant for volume in a combined lift and augmentation pushes the total higher. Price is driven by the lift technique, whether an implant is added, the city, and the surgeon and facility.

Indicative ranges, reviewed May 2025. Not a quote. A price far below the rest of the market often means a less experienced surgeon or a non accredited theatre.

The realistic experience

The trip, recovery and the follow up problem.

A breast lift is done under general anaesthetic. Plan to stay in Mexico for several days before flying, because flights soon after surgery raise the risk of deep vein thrombosis. Expect a support bra, limits on lifting and reaching, and scars that are firm and pink at first and fade over a year or more.

01

Days 1 to 3

Surgery is under general anaesthetic. Expect soreness, swelling, bruising, and a support garment. Heavy lifting and reaching overhead are off limits.

02

Day 5 to 7

Many surgeons advise waiting around a week before flying. Light walking lowers clot risk. Confirm your own clearance to fly with the operating surgeon.

03

Week 2 to 6

Swelling eases and you return to most daily activities. Strenuous exercise is reintroduced gradually on your surgeon's advice.

04

3 to 6 months

The shape settles and scars begin to soften and fade, a process that continues for a year or longer.

The follow up problem

Once you are home, a wound that heals slowly, a widened scar, or asymmetry is hard to manage from another country. Local surgeons are often reluctant to take on another clinic's work, so agree before you travel exactly how reviews and any revision will be handled.

Insurance and complication cover

Standard travel insurance rarely covers elective cosmetic surgery or its complications. Read the policy closely and consider dedicated medical complications cover before you book.

The risks of travelling here

What can go wrong.

A breast lift is generally safe in skilled hands, but it is surgery that always leaves scars, and travelling adds distance between you and the surgeon if a problem appears later. Understand these before you commit.

Permanent scars

A lift always leaves scars, usually around the areola and often down the breast and along the crease. They fade but never disappear, and some people scar more visibly than others.

Changes in nipple sensation

Altered or lost sensation in the nipple is possible and sometimes permanent, and a lift can affect future breastfeeding.

Healing problems and asymmetry

Delayed healing, wound separation, and some asymmetry between the two sides can occur and may surface after you fly home.

Clots from flying after surgery

Surgery and flights both raise the risk of deep vein thrombosis. Allow recovery time and get written clearance to fly.

Sagging can return

A lift does not stop ageing. Gravity, weight changes and pregnancy can cause some sagging to return over the years. No honest surgeon promises a permanent result.

How to choose safely in Mexico

Five questions before you pay.

We do not name clinics. Use these to judge any clinic in Mexico you are sent to, and treat vague answers, pressure to book, and prices far below the market as the warning signs that matter most.

1
Is the surgeon a board certified plastic surgeon?
Ask for certification by the Consejo Mexicano de Cirugia Plastica, Estetica y Reconstructiva, the national plastic surgery board, and membership of a body such as AMCPER.
2
What lift technique and scar pattern is planned?
Ask which scar pattern suits your degree of sagging and whether an implant is needed for volume. A clear answer about scars is a good sign.
3
Is the hospital or theatre accredited?
Look for accreditation by the Consejo de Salubridad General, and JCI accreditation for larger hospitals. This is a general anaesthetic procedure that belongs in a proper theatre.
4
Who gives the anaesthetic, and what monitoring is there?
A qualified anaesthetist and full monitoring matter. Confirm this is included, not an optional extra.
5
What happens if I need a review or revision at home?
Get the aftercare plan and any revision terms in writing, including who pays and how a revision works once you are back home.

Common questions

The things everyone asks.

Is a breast lift in Mexico safe?

At an accredited hospital where a board certified plastic surgeon operates with proper anaesthetic support, it can be safe and the results good. Risk rises with non accredited theatres and flying home too soon. This page is here to help you tell a careful clinic from a risky one.

Will a lift make my breasts bigger?

No. A lift reshapes and raises the breast but does not add volume. If you also want more fullness, that means adding an implant, which is a bigger operation with its own cost and risks.

Are the scars permanent?

Yes. A lift always leaves scars, which fade over a year or more but never disappear. Ask your surgeon about the scar pattern that suits your case before you decide.

How long should I stay in Mexico after surgery?

Plan for roughly five to seven days. Many surgeons advise waiting about a week before flying because of clot risk. Always confirm your own clearance to fly with the operating surgeon.

Will the result last?

A lift turns back the clock but does not stop it. Gravity, weight changes and pregnancy can bring some sagging back over the years. No surgeon can honestly promise a permanent result.
