Quick answer

Is it worth going to Colombia?

A brow lift, or forehead lift, in Colombia commonly costs from about £2,000, often a half to a third of UK or US pricing for comparable work. Colombia has a large, established plastic surgery sector in Medellin, Bogota, Cali and Cartagena, with many experienced facial surgeons. The real cost is the travel itself, because this is surgery that needs a recovery window before you fly home, and a busy market means who actually operates matters far more than the headline price.

Costs below are indicative ranges, reviewed September 2025, and vary by the technique, whether it is combined with eyelid surgery, the surgeon, and what a package includes. They are not a quote and not a promise of a result.

What it really costs here

The price in Colombia, honestly.

In Colombia a brow lift on its own typically runs from about £2,000 to £3,600, which is roughly $2,500 to $4,500. Combining it with upper eyelid surgery, a common pairing, usually pushes the figure higher, often into the region of £2,800 to £4,800. All inclusive packages that bundle recovery accommodation and nursing care are common. Price is driven by the technique, whether other facial work is added, the surgeon and the facility.

Indicative ranges, reviewed September 2025. Not a quote. A price far below the rest of the market often means a less experienced surgeon or a non accredited theatre, neither of which is worth the saving on facial surgery.

The realistic experience

The trip, recovery and the follow up problem.

A brow lift is not a fly in, fly out procedure. You should plan to stay in Colombia for a meaningful recovery before flying, because facial swelling and bruising peak in the first days and a long flight soon after surgery raises the risk of deep vein thrombosis. Expect bruising around the forehead and eyes, numbness that fades slowly, and a result that keeps settling over weeks.

01

Days 1 to 3

Surgery is usually under general or deep sedation anaesthetic. Expect a dressing or bandage, swelling and bruising around the brow and eyes, and a tight feeling across the forehead. Keep the head elevated.

02

Day 5 to 7

Bruising starts to fade and any sutures or staples are reviewed or removed. This early review is one reason a stay here matters before a long flight home.

03

Day 7 to 10

Many surgeons advise waiting at least a week or so before a long flight because of clot risk and pressure changes. Confirm your own clearance to fly directly with the operating surgeon.

04

Weeks to months

Residual swelling and numbness settle over weeks to a few months, and the final brow position becomes clear. A brow lift softens ageing, it does not freeze it.

The follow up problem

Once you are home, a thickened scar, asymmetry of the brows, or a result you are unhappy with is hard to manage from another country. Local surgeons are often reluctant to take on another clinic's work, so agree before you travel exactly how reviews, scar care, and any revision will be handled.

Insurance and complication cover

Standard travel insurance rarely covers elective cosmetic surgery or its complications. Read the policy closely and consider dedicated medical complications cover before you book.

The risks of travelling here

What can go wrong.

A brow lift is a well understood operation, but it is still surgery near the eyes and forehead nerves, and the distance you travel afterward adds its own risks. Understand these before you commit.

Numbness and nerve effects

Numbness or altered sensation across the forehead and scalp is common and usually temporary, but it can occasionally be lasting. Rarely, the nerve that raises the brow is affected, causing weakness or asymmetry.

Scars and hairline changes

Scar position depends on the technique. Endoscopic methods use small hidden incisions, while an open or coronal lift leaves a longer scar and can move the hairline. Ask exactly where your scars will sit.

Clots from flying after surgery

Surgery and long flights both raise the risk of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. Allow real recovery time and get written clearance to fly.

A very high volume market

Colombia performs a large number of cosmetic procedures, and demand has drawn in some operators who cut corners. Reputable surgeons are registered with the Colombian authorities and many belong to the Sociedad Colombiana de Cirugia Plastica. Verify registration rather than trusting social media.

Over elevation and an unnatural look

A brow lifted too high gives a surprised or startled look that is hard to reverse. Asymmetry between the two brows is also possible. A careful surgeon aims for a natural position, not a dramatic one.

How to choose safely in Colombia

Five questions before you pay.

We do not name clinics. Use these to judge any clinic in Colombia you are sent to, and treat vague answers, pressure to book, and prices far below the market as the warning signs that matter most.

1
Is the surgeon a registered plastic surgeon?
Ask for the surgeon's registration with the Colombian authorities and specialist training in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. Membership of the Sociedad Colombiana de Cirugia Plastica is a useful sign, not a general practitioner doing cosmetic work.
2
Is the hospital or theatre accredited?
A brow lift belongs in a properly equipped, licensed theatre with anaesthetic support, not an office back room. Ask which licensed facility the surgery takes place in.
3
Which technique, and where will the scars be?
A good surgeon explains whether they plan an endoscopic, temporal or open lift, why, where the scars sit, and what your result realistically can and cannot be. Be wary of anyone who promises a lift with no marks at all.
4
Who gives the anaesthetic, and what monitoring is there?
A qualified anaesthetist and full monitoring matter for any procedure under general anaesthetic or deep sedation. Confirm this is included, not an optional extra.
5
What happens if I need a review or revision at home?
Get the aftercare plan, scar guidance, and any revision terms in writing, including who pays and how a revision works once you are back home.

Common questions

The things everyone asks.

Is a brow lift in Colombia safe?

At an accredited facility where a registered plastic surgeon operates with proper anaesthetic support, it can be safe and the results good. Risk rises with non accredited theatres, unqualified operators, and flying home too soon. This page is here to help you tell a careful clinic from a risky one.

Will a brow lift fix hooded or droopy eyelids?

Only partly. A brow lift raises a heavy or sagging brow, which can ease some hooding, but loose skin on the eyelid itself is treated by upper eyelid surgery. Many people have the two together. A good surgeon will tell you which one you actually need.

How long should I stay in Colombia after surgery?

Plan for a stay of roughly seven to ten days so swelling settles and early reviews happen before you travel. Many surgeons advise waiting that long before a long flight because of clot risk. Always confirm your own clearance to fly.

Will the scars show?

It depends on technique. Endoscopic lifts use small incisions hidden in the hairline, while an open lift leaves a longer scar that is usually concealed by hair. Ask your surgeon exactly where the scars will be before you agree.

How long does a brow lift last?

The effect commonly lasts in the region of five to ten years, but this varies and ageing continues underneath. No surgery stops the face changing over time, so think of a brow lift as turning the clock back rather than stopping it.
